Moved to convert because of a miraculous sign, the Roman guard Adrian faces imperial persecution and death for embracing the Christian faith.  His wife desires to share in his suffering and strengthens his resolve.  The Academy's semi-staged production, accompanies by Baroque-style instruments, stars the young Brazilian countertenor Victor Bento. A Western Hemisphere premiere.

Every time I read this passage about the camel and the eye of a needle, I think of an essay about it by the writer Mary Gordon. When she was a girl, she read this story in her children’s Bible one evening and immediately jumped out of bed, found her mother, and cried, “Mom, Jesus says rich people won’t go to heaven!”

To which her mother said, “We’re not rich. Go back to bed.”

Our Halloween Extravaganza just got even better! In addition to the usual and popular events we offer--the Annual Graveyard Tour, Halloween Party & Haunted House--we'll be adding a 30-minute organ concert, with spooky music played by our own Victoria Shields. Don't miss it! 

On All Saints' Sunday at 5 pm we'll be hosting an Anglican Choral Evensong to mark the occasion and remember our deceased loved ones. The necrology--list of the dead--will be printed in the bulletin for morning services (9 & 10:30), and read aloud at the Choral Evensong (5 pm). Add your loved ones' names to our list. Anyone who has died in the past year at St. James will automatically be added.

During our Anniversary Year, we'll be hearing from members of our History Committee about the various periods of our history, from 1849 to the present. The full schedule is on our 175th Events Calendar. Those lectures will be recorded and posted on our Youtube page. You can find the first two--by Jim Boulden, Popham descendant, and Hadley Miller, member of the History Committee--posted there now. When we can, we'll also include links to their slide shows.
