The Cherub choir makes their debut this Sunday at the 10:30 service. Come out an support them, and join along! Kids through second grade can "rehearse" at home using this practice video and then show up at 10:10 for warm-up on Sunday. Episcopal churches like ours are supported by the generous, annual pledges of those who attend our services. Everything you enjoy at St. James--worship, music, pastoral care, programs for kids and adults, outreach--happens because of your generosity and commitment.

•Those who gave already will have a card with their name on it already in the plate. This includes anyone who currently has a recurring pledge or pledges online between now and Sunday

•The who haven't yet pledged by this Sunday can fill out a blank card in church (provided, with envelope) and put it in the plate, or bring your card from home and place it in the plate Sunday.

Jesus said, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down.”

Those aren’t words one wants to hear right as we’re trying to shore up our church and raise the money we need to operate another year! This reading and Jesus’ prediction about the destruction of the Jerusalem temple comes as sure as the Fall, with its shorter days and colder weather. In the church, it signals the shift from the long season of Pentecost to--starting in just 2 weeks--Advent, and then Christmas. It also comes just as we’re trying to take care of our buildings, pay our staff, invest for another year in the present and future of our church through the contributions and commitments of our members. At St. James we call this the Annual Appeal.

I guess this points to the paradox in life where We know that everything, certainly ourselves, but everything else (even the grandest structures, everything) is impermanent. Everything eventually flattens out to a geological stripe on the fossil record. And yet, and yet, we’re called for our brief time here to act as if things were going to last. To take care of our health, and our bodies. To take care of our churches, our institutions. Our earth. For us, this is all we have.

All are welcome to help us pack 300+ grocery bags for the food insecure in the neighborhood of our partner parish, St. James Episcopal Church in Fordham. Calling all bakers and shoppers (or anyone who would like to help with a baked good or gift to help a child smile this holiday season)! This is the time of year when St James parishioners can utilize their talents to help others have a better holiday season. There are a couple of ways to help those in need. For instance:

1) If you like to bake, we do an annual gifting of homemade cookies to the Children’s Village and are always in need of cookie bakers. Click below for more information and to sign up. 

2) If you like to shop, you can buy a gift for a child at the Children’s Village and help make their Christmas special with your gift. Click below to sign up.
