"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God."
Many of the beatitudes speak of a future reward: being comforted, being shown mercy, inheriting the earth. This beatitude, I believe, is not just about a future reward. It is also a statement about the natural consequence of being pure in heart.  The pure in heart not only will see God. They do see God. It is this very pureness that opens them to seeing God’s presence here and now.
Who we are alters our perception. When we are consumed by hidden agendas or self-serving motives, it clouds our vision, and it becomes impossible to see the divine reality all around us. Only when our heart is pure can we see God: in the world around us, in others, and in the unfolding of our own lives.
The pure in heart don’t just glimpse God in moments of revelation. They have a sustained awareness of God that transforms how they experience reality. And that ability, more than any promise of the future, is their true reward.
